Growth Parameters and Mortality of Bluefish (Pomatomus saltatrix Linnaeus, 1766) from Gallipoli Peninsula and Dardanelles (northeastern Mediterranean, Turkey)
Abstract
In this study, the growth parameters of the bluefish, Pomatomus saltatrix (Linnaeus, 1766), were studied in Gallipoli Peninsula and Dardanelles (northeastern Mediterranean, Turkey) between November 2008 and October 2009. The length-weight relationship was calculated as W=0.0082TL3.02 for females, W=0.0081TL3.03 for males and W=0.0081TL3.03 for all samples. Growth parameters of the populations were L∞= 86.8 cm, k=0.15 year-1, t0=-1.40 for females; L∞=89.1 cm, k=0.16 year-1, t0=-1.46 for males and L∞=88.3 cm, k=0.15 year-1, t0=-1.43 for all samples. Total mortality rate (Z), natural mortality rate (M), fishing mortality rate (F) and exploitation rate (E) of the bluefish were 0.90 year-1, 0.21 year-1, 0.69 year-1 and 0.76 year-1, respectively
