Effectiveness of Crop Advisory Services in Aurangabad District of Maharashtra in India

The project was undertaken to study the evaluation of effectivenessof crop advisory services and suggested measuresfor filling the gap in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra inIndia. The survey was carried out in 2010. The data wascollected with the help of a specifically designed and pre-testedquestionnaire. The project carried out in catchment area ofadvisory services has given substantial insight on the currentstatus of different dimensions of advisory services running inAurangabad and also recommends strategies to make advisoryservices accessible to all. The farmer's willingness to payassumes a key role in determining the success of a cost-recoverystrategy. During the study it was interesting to note that of allthe 115 respondents 46.67% agreed that their critical need wassupply of inputs followed by credit purchase on which theadvisory services provider should focus. The disseminationchannels were not utilized properly. The results of correlationstudy indicate that the recommendations by the advisory servicesand the results after advise have a positive correlation withincrease in yield showing the effectiveness of these crop advisoryservices. The results of multivariate regression indicated thatthe cropping and harvesting method, credit access, input supplylinkage, insurance, age, education and interaction with otherfarmers have the main role in showing the variations of attitudeto adoption of the advisory services.
