This paper intends to analyze the ways in which the Romanian folk literature is dealt with in the literary work of Carmen Sylva, a German-born princess and the first Queen of Romania, acknowledged as a prolific writer during her lifetime. Her fondness of the Romanian culture in general and the folk literature in particular, generated partly from the desire to promote the new monarchy and dynasty, is to be found in her literary work either as translations into German, or as motives, themes and symbols. The author of this paper presents both situations, by briefly analyzing the German translation of the Romanian ballad Miorita and the famous volume of stories Pelesch Märchen.
