Background and Objective: One of the most daunting challenges presented to patients undergoing hemodialysis is the limitation of function and a marked decrease in daily living activities. Orem's self-care theory in nursing improves the quality of life in patients with chronic disease. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess the effect of using the Orem self-care model on the daily activities of patients undergoing hemodialysis. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was performed on 34 hemodialysis patients in the dialysis ward of Ostad Mottahari Hospital of Jahrom in 2022. Data collection tools included Nottingham's daily living activity questionnaire. The training was provided individually during six half-hour sessions in six weeks. Thereafter, immediately and two months after the intervention, the daily living activities of the patients were evaluated. Data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 21) using descriptive statistics and the Frietest, Mann-Whitney, t-test, and Chi-square test. Results: Immediately after the intervention, the mean score in the intervention group was higher than that in the control group (P=0.009). Two months after the intervention, the mean score in the intervention group was higher than that in the control group (P=0.001). In general, the mean scores of daily living activities in the intervention group did not change significantly during the study (P>0.05). In the control group, a significant decrease was observed in the scores of daily living activities (P<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study indicated the positive effect of the Orem self-care model on the daily activities of patients undergoing hemodialysis.
