Study Cherenkov radiation by production of positrons and its annihilation in dense plasma focus
Abstract
The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the production of positrons through natNe2D4He18F, nuclear reactions and its possible Cherenkov radiation (CR) before annihilating in the hot and dense plasma medium (pinch) of a Mather type dense plasma focus device (DPF). Numerical computations of dispersion relation in the pinch plasma medium showed that CR started at approximately E = 0.0645 MeV with the relativistic velocity of 0.46 ms. Furthermore, the positron loses its energy by collision with the background plasma at a rate approximated by Bethe-Bloch equation through the pinch plasma diameter of 3 cm and annihilates after traveling a distance of about 1 cm.
