Traduire le jeu vidéo : un équilibrage des dynamiques intersémiotiques
Abstract
This article is the result of plurisemiotic and microtextual analyses of video game translations. In it, we create a reading grid based on a theoretical tool that we specifically developed for video game translation in a previous work. The application of the first tool has highlighted the importance of a plurisemiotic approach to the translation of video games. Indeed, since video games are made up of many different languages, it is essential for the translator to consider them as a coherent whole, otherwise there is a risk of potentially causing functional issues in the game. In this article, a wider application of this tool has led to the constitution of a second reading grid designed for the video game translator: the intersemiotic relational triad. This triad is made up of three relations identified during our analyses: tension, interaction and interdependence. This reading grid sheds light on the dynamics that characterize video game languages and the challenges they pose for the video game translator. More than a translation of words or ideas, video game translation is in fact a constant (re)balancing of the intersemiotic dynamics of a given work.
