On the basis of the results of an intervention conducted from an activity clinic perspective, the aim of this article is to look at the development of sentiment as a result of the development of the confrontation between affect and thought. We base our analysis on the example of an occupational health physician whose sentiments – the sentiment of efficacy in particular -changed during the intervention. We analyse an extract of a dialogue between her and a colleague, during which they discuss arguments for and against a specific procedure. We will look at this exchange as a mobilisation of thought and as way of developing sentiments. In so doing, we offer an alternative to Bandura’s classic definition (1997) of the sentiment of self-efficacy.
