Prevalencia del síndrome metabólico en pacientes diabéticos tipo 2 Metabolic syndrome prevalence in patients with diabetes type 2
Abstract
Se consideraron significativas cuando pAuthors made a cross-sectional study in type 2 diabetes persons from January to December 2005 in health area of Wajay, to determine the metabolic syndrome (MS) and its prevalence. A cohort was selected by simple customized sampling (n= 218). Presence of MS was considered if two or more National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP/AT P III) were fulfilled. All persons underwent a physical examination and a medical record was obtained. Mean and standard deviation (SD) were estimated for quantitative variables, comparison was made by Student t test; the qualitative ones with frequency distribution, and Chi2 for associations. They were considered significant when p < 0, 05. We found that MS prevalence was of 56 %, the 40,2 % of patients presenting with MS had a ischemic heart disease. We conclude that MS is very frequent in persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and that there is a close relationship between IC and MS.
