This contribution examines Aldo Busi’s 1990 translation of the Decameron from fourteenth-century Italian into the modern language. More specifically, it analyses the techniques adopted by Busi and his interpretive choices, focusing on the lexical and stylistic relationship between the two texts. In doing so, this article shows how Busi’s translation is driven by a specific interpretation privileging the hedonistic strength, the inventive power, and the licentious potential of the Decameron.
