A rising incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) may lead to longer hospitalization stays and even greater mortality. Diabetes is an independent risk factor for AKI and using hypoglycemic agents has been a fundamental glycemic control in diabetics. Studies have shown that different types of hypoglycemic agents may have an effect on the occurrence of AKI, including metformin, SGLT2 inhibitors and entero-insulin analogues (GLP-1 receptor agonists, DPP4 inhibitors). This review focused upon the relationship between related drugs and AKI.
