Operative video of endoscopic endonasal resection of pituitary macroadenoma: Intracapsular versus extracapsular techniques

Abstract

Neurosurgeons have known of the histologic pseudocapsule (HP) associated with pituitary adenomas since 1936. While the importance of the HP in guiding intracapsular (IC) and extracapsular (EC) techniques for resection of pituitary macroadenomas (PMAs) has been widely reported, there is a paucity of operative video in the literature illustrating surgical nuances associated with these techniques. In this video publication, we review operative video from resection of two radiographically similar PMAs to contrast IC and EC techniques for resection.
