Macroscopic characteristics of the healthy follicle are important to determine the potential of nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation of the oocytes. The present study work was developed to examine the effect of follicular diameter on the quality of oocytes obtained from ovaries collected after slaughter. Ovaries were dissected, measured and divided in three classes according to the diameter: class 1 (C1) – follicles 7mm. Of 528 dissected follicles, 373 were class I, 80 were class II, and 75 were class III. Correlations were not observed between quality of the oocytes and size of the follicles (p> 0,05). The present results demonstrated that the diameter of the follicle did not influence the quality of oocytes recovered after slaughter.
