Sodar measurements of the structural characteristics of temperature fluctuations and the outer scale of turbulence
Abstract
Vertical profiles of the structural characteristics of temperature fluctuations C2T and the outer scale of turbulence L0 are evaluated from the data of acoustic sounding with the Zvuk-2 three-channel Doppler sodar. An iterative algorithm considering the turbulent signal attenuation is used for sodar data interpretation. A comparison between sodar derived C2T and in situ measurements with micropulsation sensors demonstrates their good agreement. For the first time, vertical profiles of L0 are obtained for the atmospheric boundary layer. Their near-ground values agree well with values reported in literature.
