Geografia Regional em tempos de globalização: experiências da fronteira França-Brasil
Abstract
This article addresses the challenges and opportunities related to Regional Geography within contemporary times. This study was based on a field research at French-Brazilian borders of Oiapoque, located between Amapá Brazilian state and French-Guiana ultramarine department, which presents tension in terms of regional and global territorial forces. Nowadays, with economical and informational globalization, regional relations still play an important role in production and use of space, within multiple geographical categories, political scales and social players. Thus, French-Brazilian borders are seen as a privileged social laboratory aiming to observe the limits and the potential of Regional Geography regarding to practical concepts of geographical complex, social linked regions and networking region. From this French-Brazilian boundary we can delineate some considerations about contemporary epistemology of regional studies facing international political tensions and transnational human practices inside transboundary zones.
