Sociocultural activity of the Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv: narratives of historical memory
Abstract
The purpose of the article is to examine the key aspects of the sociocultural practices of the Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv in order to uncover its distinctive historical and cultural holdings, point out the key patterns and trends of these practices, and emphasize the significance of the digitization process in light of their ongoing support. The research methodology is based on the use of the principles of scientific objectivity and systematicity when applying the methods of analysis, synthesis, monitoring, description, and generalization. Scientific novelty. The results obtained characterize the specificity of the book collection’s sociocultural activity in relation to the disclosure and popularization of unique historical and cultural collections. Its main goals were described, the peculiarities of the subject of exhibition and presentation work were identified, and the significance of innovative processes for the activation of research by book collection users was established and validated. Conclusions. Significant sociocultural activities are carried out by the Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukrainein Lviv to introduce users - both present and prospective - to its distinctive and varied polythematic historical and cultural holdings. The historical and cultural heritage of the 11 th to 20 th centuries primarily attracts motivated and discerning readers, who typically share a similar scientific and cultural background. Consequently, employees are consistently tasked with producing a socio-cultural products that aidin the formation and preservation of historical memory. The library’s socio-cultural practices focus onareas of exhibitions (librarian, bibliography, press studies, source studies, art directions), museum and library activities (memorial reading rooms that emphasize the role of Ukrainian figures in the creation of the national socio-cultural sphere), and presentations (publishing products as a result of multi-faceted scientific processing of holdings). The designated fields of socio-cultural work give users the opportunity to select new avenues for their research interests, offer fresh historical data, enhance the efficiency of the scientific research process, and - above all - display the historical and cultural heritage’s informational potential for the preservation of historical memory.
