A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE PROVERBS OF TURKEY TURKISH AND MODERN UIGHUR TURKISH

Abstract

Proverbs, generally regarded as the essence of language, play an important role in language. It is observed that there has been a shift from a linguistic approach to a cultural approach on the study of proverbs. The present thesis is introducing the proverbs of Uyghur and Turkish proverbs. The content includes the form characteristics and meaning characteristics and the comparison of the two nation’s proverbs. Uyghur and Turkish proverbs have similar origin and linguistic characteristics. They also belong to same language system and same language group. But differences between Uyghur and Turkish proverbs also exit. That is different geography, different history customs, and different value concepts. In order to compare the proverbs in Turkish and the proverbs in Uyghur in a comprehensive way, this thesis is based on the Dictionary of Turkish Proverbs and the Dictionary of Uyghur Proverbs.
