The physical vulnerability of buildings in the Guaranda canton in Ecuador affected by the earthquake of 7,8 on the magnitude scale of April 16, 2016, was evaluated. Risks were analyzed based on the vulnerability of 1170 buildings through surveys considering geometric, construction, structural, foundation, environment, and soils. The total vulnerability was obtained by weighting the vulnerabilities of the components according to the relative weighting factors categorized as low, medium and high vulnerability. A regression model was developed that explained the contribution to the total vulnerability of the independent variables studied. The results showed the seismic accelerations in the area and will contribute to compliance with the territorial planning plan that leads to the execution of construction standards.
