This article deals with the origins and the ways of formation Russian modern style in Elena Polenova art and book graphics. Elena Dmitrievna Polenova(1850–1898) – is a Russian painter, designer, decorator, she is a sister of famous Russian painter – Vasiliy Polenov. But first of all Elena Polenova is an outstanding illustrator of Russian tales, whose work was the original in illustration of Russian children’s literature. The creativity of Elena Polenova dates back to spiritual tradition and cultural memory of the people. Besides, the practice of children’s tales illustrations in E.Polenova art predate the work of association «Mir iskusstva» and the experience of its artists. The method of Elena Polenova and her practice in illustrations didn’t lose its value and is still relevant nowadays.
