The Singer and Composer Henry Holcombe (1690–1756)
Abstract
Henry Holcombe (1690–1756) was trained as a chorister at Chester Cathedral. In 1705 he moved to London, where he sang at the Drury Lane theatre. He later pursued a lucrative career as a private music teacher. Only in later life did he achieve his full potential as a composer, producing four collections of exceptional quality. This is the first study to examine Holcombe’s life and music in detail.
