Abstract
Hyperphosphatemia in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an important complication of impaired renal function and is associated with negative clinical consequences such as cardiovascular calcification, bone disease and secondary hyperparathyroidism, which leads to a worsening of cardiovascular disease and mortality. The purpose of this review was to discuss the management of hyperphosphatemia in CKD. The following topics are considered: phosphorus homeostasis, diagnosis of hyperphosphatemia, the effectiveness of modern dietary and pharmacological treatment using phosphate binders.
