Development of Organic Agriculture in the Republic of Croatia during the Period 2013-2020

Organic agriculture represents a complete farm management system and food production system that combines best management practices in plant and animal production, that ensures the conservation of natural resources, environment, climate, it is maintaining high biodiversity, high standards of animal welfare and high production standards. The Republic of Croatia has very favourable agroecological conditions for agricultural production, which provides great potential for development of organic agriculture. The aim of this paper is to determine development of organic agriculture in the Republic of Croatia during the period 2013-2020. During the studied eight-year period, the number of organic producers and processors of organic products has increased. Furthermore, the organically utilized agricultural land increased by 4.5 times, of which most common are arable land and gardens, grasslands and perennial cropland. In the category of perennial cropland, the most common are orchards, on the second place are olive groves, and on the third place are vineyards. Considering animal organic production, the most common was breeding of sheep’s, cattle and poultry, while the least common was breeding of pigs, bees and ungulates.
