This article analyzes the unsuccessful but resounding attempt by an anti-Islamic association and a far-right group to ban a concert by the rapper Médine in French-speaking Switzerland in October 2018. Drawing on a pragmatist sociology of public experience, the inquiry studies the entire mobilization against the artist by looking at its circulation on social networks, its strong media coverage and the reactions of the main protagonists concerned. Ultimately, this contribution elucidates how the protagonists strategically use publicity to show Médine as a dangerous “Islamist” and, at the same time, to make their cause against Islam visible.
