This essay attempts to perceive how rape, misogyny and social indifference are represented in the poems collected in O martelo, written by the Brazilian poet Adelaide Ivánova. The irony present in the language used by the author (which embraces and resignifies the different forms of prejudice) and the performative expositions of body and desire are formal strategies adopted by Ivánova to turn the gender-based violence into poetry theme. --- DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.25094/rtp.2019n27a565
