The global recession at the end of the 2000s did not spare the Caribbean countries. If the economic events of this crisis are the same, the study conducted in urban areas of Pointe-à-Pitre, and Roseau shows that the perception and the responses of people facing this event vary from one jurisdiction to another, depending on the political status and living standards. In the French Antilles, the reaction was to seek a responsible, namely the state, while the independent island of Dominica, in a pragmatic way, people collectively seek alternatives.
