This study aims to design and test the performance of the irrigation water using a control system with a soil moisture-based smartphone application. The tools and materials of this research are the ESP8266-12E microcontroller, smartphone, soil moisture sensor YL-69, pump, and soil. This research method is an experimental method with field experiments through several stages of research, i.e. preparation, design, calibration of tools, installation of irrigation installations, test performance, and observation. The parameters in this study were groundwater content, ADC sensor value, sensor calibration, operating time, water discharge, and input and output voltages. The results showed that the sensor calibration results had an average error of 1.08%. The average rate of water flowed when the pump start was 6.3 ml/second. This condition caused a rapid increase in soil moisture content, which was around 18%. Hence causing the time to reach the setting point was also fast, which was only 1 minute. The system was designed to work based on changes in the groundwater content, which was determined by the setting point value. When the value reached = 80%, the tool sent the groundwater content to the smartphone, and then a message was sent back to the device to stop the pump.
