Abstract

Professional training at the University Science and Technology programs and their relevance to the work place abstract The study aimed at investigating the professional training of some UST programs at the faculty of engineering namely MIS, Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering and Architecture and their relevance to the market place. Content analysis was adopted to analyse the programs specification documents with regards to programs aims, content, teaching and learning methods and evaluation methods. Furthermore, a questionnaire was designed and distributed to 519 male students and 287 female students at the UST faculty of engineering about the quality of training them for the work place particularly in two dimensions: employment and personal development. The result of content analysis showed that their professional training are not as it should be. Results also showed that there was no significant differences between male and female students regarding their views about their professional training and personal development at the university. Whereas there were differences in their views between male and female students with reference to the variables of faculty, programs, and level of study. Several recommendations and suggestions were offered to improve the educational service quality of UST programs. Key words: Professional training, Personal development, University programs evaluation
