Abstract
AbstractSince the discovery of atrial fibrillation, this disease hasbecome a huge potential market, which attracts considerable resources for its research. In the multivariatemodels, the established cardiovascular disease, hypertension, age and left ventricular hypertrophy had the strongest association with atrial fibrillation. In the pathophysiologic basis of the P-wave dispersion, an emphasisis made on the alterations of atrial actionpotential, delayed impulse propagation through theatria and electrical remodeling of the walls of these cardiac chambers. The methodology for the measurementof the P-wave has been extensively studied anddiscussed at international symposia. It is known thatthe most reliable method is to use a digital signal withhigh resolution screen. In daily medical practice, theuse of this technology is being limited, and the use ofthe ECG is a routine practice that we should not forgetfor the measurement of the P-wave and the calculationof its dispersion. The digital method can be well used inthe design of studies, but the everyday use of the electrocardiogram should strengthen the practice ofeach electrocardiographist to identify risk patients with higher values of dispersion of the wave.
