Voltage stability in power systems has become an important problem in planning of power systems due to both power quality and regional black out. This problem is known in the literature as a nonlinear optimization problem with multi-constraint function. In this study, a new algorithm, named as Electrically Charged Particle Optimization (ECPO), is proposed in the problem of improving voltage stability at Optimum Power Flow (OPF) problem. The efficiency of the ECPO algorithm was tested by applying the IEEE 30 test bus system, which is the most used in the literature. The test results were then compared with other methods reported in the literature to show that ECPO provides an effective and high quality solution for OPF problem.
