Representaciones del extranjero y del enemigo en el espacio rioplatense de la etapa tardo-colonial y primeros años revolucionarios
Abstract
During the nineteenth century, in the Río de la Plata region, lettered and political elites forged their representations of otherness through literary texts, newspapers, memories, autobiographies, public documents or the correspondence. Inclusion and exclusion patterns as well as material and symbolic connotations of territoriality, are part of a process that encompasses resignifications and produces shifts in senses and adressees in relation to the emerging conditions of the discourses. The purpose of this work is to investigate, through journalistic discourse, memories and autobiographies, the social-historical construction process of foreigners and enemies during the late-colonial period and the first years after revolution and to highlight the importance of territory in its physical and symbolic dimensions in relation to identity process formed by learned elites.
