While it remains erroneous to regard Morris as an anarchist, an awareness of his quarrel with anarchists, especially those of the Socialist League, is necessary to understand News from Nowhere. Indeed, Morris’s utopia is informed by both his agreement with the anarchists (on the questions of parliamentarianism and communalism, for instance), and his disagreements with them, on such issues as the use of revolutionary violence or the legitimacy of political majorities.
