Gaia Andreoletti et al. leverage cell-sorted RNA-seq data and machine learning to investigate gene expression patterns in immune cell subtypes purified from Asian and White patients with a medical diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). They report distinct clinical subtypes of SLE and identify ethnicity- and disease-specific gene clusters, potentially contributing toward the future development of personalized therapeutic strategies for patients with SLE.
