Hispanic Perspective on Dokdo/Takeshima Territorial Dispute and its Possible Solution

Abstract

Currently, the Dokdo/Takeshima territorial dispute has caused tension in the relationship between Japan and South Korea. Recently, this controversial issue has achieved its highest tension level, which triggered a diplomatic confrontation between these governments. In this sense, each one of them has expounded its posture to the international public opinion, aiming at getting global support in favor of its own interests. Along these lines, throughout this article the allegations regarding Dokdo/Takeshima sovereignty claim, expounded by the abovementioned governments, shall be analyzed in depth. Particularly, it shall be stressed the Hispanic perspective on those arguments, which is important to consider due to the possible conflict resolution in the International Court of Justice.
