Hard times, leading women: the television works of Virginia Yagüe
Abstract
The aim of this article is to consider the need to study the professional work of creative women in the audiovisual field beyond the hegemonic category of film direction, in order to place them adequately in Moving Image History. To do this, we propose an approach to television screenwriting in Spain, a field where women have made significant contributions, focusing on the works of Virginia Yagüe, creator of the fiction series La Señora (TVE1: 2008-2010) and 14 de abril. La República (TVE1: 2011-). Her professional career will be analyzed in aspects such as her training as a screenwriter, her first professional works and progression towards positions with a greater creative autonomy, her connection with other professionals (particularly female) and the representation of women protagonists in the context of historical fictions.
