Abstract

Qarmaapik is a pilot Family house project in Kangiqsualujjuaq in Nunavik, a community facility that aims to strengthen social ties in this village. This article is an investigation woven at the crossroads of architecture and ethnography, examining certain aspects of Inuit living, in a (post)colonial context. The method used is participant observation, accompanied by ethnographic sketches, semi-structured interviews and manned surveys. In Qarmaapik Family house, the thresholds are made up of complex devices so as not to be places of interruption, but to manage privacy. The study of the physical, social and symbolic aspects of the interior and exterior thresholds highlights, on the one hand, the place of this place in the private space - public space continuum, and on the other hand the importance of establishing relationships between people.
