Charles Baudelaire and Cecilia Meireles: poetic resonances under the night domains
Abstract
According to the symbolist perspective, the night evokes the representation of beings and objects from synesthetic relations, from now consonant correspondences sometimes contradictory, but always complementary. Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) was considered to be the forerunner of the symbolist current, both the preeminent features of his work anticipated the apprehension of exteriority through the imaginative faculty. Similar to Baudelaire, a nocturnal, evocative and enigmatic aura is expressed in the writings of Cecilia Meireles (1901-1964). Our work consists in approaching the poetry of these two artists through the observation of how the night, a notion so dear to Symbolism, is configured in its productions.
