The study used the model of Crépon, Dugueand Mairessec(1998) (CDM model) and the modified CDM model of Arza (2010)to study the relationship between innovation and productivity of SMEs in Vietnam between 2005 and 2013. The results showed that the outputs of innovation activity (introduction of new products and product improvements) had no effect on the productivity of the business while production process innovation had a positive effect on productivity enterprise. Moreover, other factors that played a significant role in increasing the productivity of enterprises include firm size, type of ownership, qualified entrepreneurs, export, the proportion of skilled labor, internet accessing and formal credit accessing and regions.
