Evaluation of Pronaf in the Income of Family Farmers in the Southeast region of Brazil

Abstract

This article estimates the impact of the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf) on the agricultural income of rural producers in the Southeast region. A literature review was carried out, which concerns the productive promotion and the granting of credit in the agricultural sector. The propensity score matching model was used, a pairing method based on sample data from the supplement of the National Household Sample Survey, 2014. It was found that Pronaf had a positive impact on the income of family farmers who took credit in the Southeast region. The credit policy contributed to the increase in income and to the greater capitalization of production.
