This issue presents a literature review of works which discuss historical and dialectical materialism as basis for research on Educational Policy field. It involves the analysis of 37 texts distributed in five categories, and makes explicit a general view on the constitution of the Educational Policy field in Brazil. It still presents contributions and obstacles often faced by researchers who adopt this framework.
