AvatarTransferPro: A tool for automatic transfer of realistic personalized avatars in networked social virtual reality

Abstract

Social Virtual Reality (VR) applications can profit from the use of realistic personalized avatars which closely mimic a person’s physical appearance. While tools exist to create such avatars, their use in networked software additionally requires a setup to automatically distribute them to other computers for practical use. AvatarTransferPro is an open source tool to handle data processing in such a setup which can be implemented in a range of network solutions as an optional module with no changes required to underlying processing of avatar behavior. Implementing the tool results in personalized avatars being displayed correctly for all users even if they were not originally included in the software installation.
