Abstract This lower extremity claudication case is designed to teach medical students basic clinical skills, including: taking patient history, performing physical exams, and demonstrating good communication and information delivery skills. The case provides detailed information for the standardized patient (SP) on how to accurately and effectively portray a patient with right lower leg pain. The case also includes a checklist for SP use. Both the case and checklist can be modified to fit a variety of student and institutional needs. It is recommended that a surgery faculty member be present when training SPs, but this is not a necessity.
