Purpose. The article is devoted to the issues of teaching foreign languages at universities as a component of professional education. The subject of analysis is the application of case method in the process of teaching a foreign language as a language of professional and business communication. The author supposes the necessity to apply the case study analysis method in the process of teaching foreign languages. Methodology. The key methods to the research are the analysis of literature, survey of lecturers and students, observation of lecturers’ activity, analyses of students’ professional competence maturity. Results. Theoretical analysis of academic literature, survey of lecturers and students and analyses of students’ professional competence maturity demonstrates the applicability of the case study analysis method, as it helps to build up essential skills and competence for the future specialists. Practical implications. The study can be useful for the specialists in linguistic and education science. The results of the study can be applied in the sphere of theoretical study and for the development of the courses of study ‘Foreign language as a language of professional and business communication.’
