This paper discusses the education researches developed in Canada, stressing the most adequate methods to apprehend how the school institution changes, evolves and answers to the new necessities. In order to make it, we start from what we know the most, in other words, the researches developed for more than twenty years. We concentrate in two fields that inspired and guided our reflections: History and Sociology of Education. The text is structured around three main poles: 1) The process of research in education – meanders of a great educational river; 2) The great research strategies to decipher the hidden faces of the school – the stones of the creek; 3) The methods of investigation to comprehend the school institution – the bridges to cross the currents.
