Collective Identity and Social Class
Abstract
This article focuses on the constitution of social identities and the influence that social class has had on understanding social identities. Different perspectives on the debate over the Marxist idea of social subject are discussed. Finally, recent perspectives are analyzed. These perspectives show two related issues: the disappearance of Marxist subjects as a result of economic, political and labor changes, and the emergence of radically different theoretical approaches to the constitution of social subjects.
