The Eastern Peripheral of the Area of the Seyminsky-Turbinskaya Tradition of Metalworking in the Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages

Abstract

The specific character of Krasnoyarsk–Kansk forest-steppe cultural and historical space is preconditioned by its location between Western and Eastern Siberia and the contact zone of the cultures of Minusinsk Hollow steppes and northern taiga forests. The marginal character of the territory influenced the development of material complexes, particularly in the Bronze and Early Iron Ages. The issue of their cultural attribution is still unsolved. The Bronze Age gave origin to the western direction of the influence on the cultural and historical space of Yenisei forest-steppe which also was connected to the Samus–Kizhirovo metalworking. The study of Krasnoyark–Angara types of socketed axes allowed to determine a set of criteria in their morphology and ornament which go up the Samus tradition of metalworking of the Seyma–Turbino trans-cultural phenomenon. This confirms the conclusions about the long persistence of this tradition in the Eastern periphery of the Seyma–Turbino bronze area. Its center was the Krasnoyarsk–Kansk forest-steppe.
