Objective There exist some differences between intercity railway stations and metro stations in operational management rules and mechanisms. In order to achieve smooth transfer, function integration, advanced application and efficient management of intercity railway stations and metro stations, it is necessary to study the synergistic transportation organization of intercity railway, metro and other rail transit according to the requirements of relevant national documents to realize intra-regional interconnection, convenient transfer and one-ticket accessibility. The spatial function optimization of transfer stations is a key issue in the research of station design with different waiting and security check modes under integrated operation condition. Method In the framework of integrated station spatial functions, the differentiation between intercity stations and metro stations is analyzed. The principles of integrated station functional space layout are studied based on two categories of simultaneously and non-simultaneously constructed stations. The feasibility and rationality of the spatial layout principles are demonstrated through analysis of actual integration transformation cases. Result & Conclusion The functional space of integrated rail transit stations should be laid out in the light of the local policies, planning, and other conditions to reserve necessary integration engineering conditions for the elastic development needs of the city. As the principles of integrated station functional space layout is proposed based on the conditions of integrated operation management, targeted research needs to be carried out in consideration of train organization, passenger flow requirements, construction timing, etc. Different functional space layout principles for simultaneously and non-simultaneously constructed stations are proposed respectively.
