Problems in teaching and learning of Moral Education in secondary schools and solutions through Hermeneutics method

This research is carried out to first,identify the actual problems faced by teachers in the teaching and learning of Moral Education and then to seeksolutions to overcome it.Questionnaires weredistributed to 6 respondents who taughtMoral Education in several secondary schools in Batang Padang District. The findings were analyzed qualitatively by using a Hermeneutics method. The study found that the main problems faced by teachers were: 1) the students were not able to relate the values learned to the real life, 2) teachers failed in mastering the teaching and learning processesof Moral Eduaction and, 3)the lack of teaching aids to assist in the teaching and learning process. Results showedthat the problems of teaching and learning Moral Education could be solved if teachers took greaterinitiatives byvarying teaching methods to attract students’ interest. The Ministry of Eduaction and the school administrators should give their support by organizing special programs, seminars and courses for teachers and upgrading the teaching aids to enablethe teaching and learning processes tobe carried out successfully.
