In this article, we analyze peripheral musical versions that perform translations from songs of the international mainstream Pop and Rock to Brazilian musical genres like Electronic Forró, Tecnobrega and Sertanejo . We begin by discussing the ideas of “aura”, “cult value” and “exposition value” in the modern artwork (Benjamin 1987, 165-196), and with the versions as a starting point we try to find a way that goes beyond binary ideas of “original” and “copy”. To understand the context in which these versions are produced and consumed we work with concepts such as cyberculture (Lemos 2005, 1-9), expressive isomorphism (Regev 2013, 29-54), and periphery (Trotta 2009a, 132-146; 2009b, 102-116; 2013, 161-176). Finally, the article presents a reading of peripheral musical versions as a practice through the idea of bastardização (Rincón 2016, 27-49) and its conflicts between pop and popular.
