Abstract

The dialogue conducted by Aliona Grati with academician Mihai Cimpoi, renowned as an Eminescu scholar, addresses the unexplored aspects of Eminescu’s work, such as his philosophy and axiology, emphasizing the need for an in-depth study of the poet’s journalism and unpublished poetry. It is mentioned that, despite the research already conducted, there are still areas within Eminescu studies that await further investigation, particularly regarding the philosophical and aesthetic impact of his work. Furthermore, in this discussion, Mihai Cimpoi reflects on the myth of Eminescu, considering it a phenomenon in continuous development, connected to the ideals of Romanticism and to a profound philosophical worldview. The importance of understanding Eminescu’s work through the lens of contrasts and the harmonization of opposites – essential elements of the poet’s thinking – is underlined. Additionally, the influence of academician Mihai Cimpoi on the formation of distinguished researchers and the development of Eminescu studies, especially in the academic centers of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, is also highlighted.
