Chief Editor\'s Note: A Critique of LIS Texts and of the Congress of Information Science and Knowledge Studies Specialists
Abstract
Education has three main elements: teachers, students and text books. Many have discussed these three elements and there are plenty of texts written, but there are still many challenges to be addressed. Teachers are the main factor in teaching and training. Teaching promotes the life and life style, but training shows how to get rid of human challenges. Students often try to pass the courses in order to perform their tasks, and books are maps which show the way and always work as references and guides. They help either in absence or presence of teachers. However, as knowledge and science develop, the books must be constantly criticized and revised. Thus a subcommittee has been established in the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies under the supervision of the Education Committee to scrutinize the LIS textbooks, and is supposed to be introduced in the Annual Congress of Information Science Specialists. Finally, the author has made some remarks about this congress.
