This lecture is taken by Diane Marie Amann for the United Nations Audiovisual Library. This lecture examines the interactions between international child law and international efforts to combat such crimes against and affecting children. She explains development and child rights first. Then she describes parallel development in two related legal fields, that of international humanitarian law and international criminal law. After looking at relevant provisions of the child rights convention and other instruments, in particular the Rome Statute of the ICC, she concludes by evaluating efforts to ensure the rights of the child by preventing and punishing international crimes against and affecting children.
